Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)

Created as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the EEOC is the federal agency in charge of handling all claims of workplace discrimination. The EEOC investigates claims involving:
·        Age
·        Disability
·        National Origin
·        Pregnancy
·        Race
·        Religion
·        Sex or Gender
·        Sexual Harassment
The EEOC also investigates retaliation against employees who make a discrimination claim and unequal pay claims. The EEOC also provides guidance and direction to all federal agencies, and ensures their compliance with EEOC regulations. There are also many free materials available to non-federal agencies, including small businesses. Providing this information at no cost helps to prevent many claims and answer questions of those considering making a claim. For a fee, the EEOC Training Institute provides training specific to an organization. This training aims to prevent and correct workplace discrimination by educating employees about the laws enforced by the EEOC.
